Marie-Mai, godmother of Leucan

On February 15, 2019, on the occasion of the International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, Leucan, announced that singer-songwriter Marie-Mai is officially being named Godmother of the Association. With this new title, Marie-Mai is renewing the commitment she made to the cause of cancer-stricken children in 2017, and solidified as part of Leucan’s 40th anniversary.

Marie-Mai’s Leucan Shaved Head Challenge

In March 2020, after more than a year of involvement as a Leucan sponsor, Marie-Mai shaved her head for the 20th anniversary of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, presented by Proxim. She revealed her new look on the cover of ELLE Québec magazine.

I shaved my head in solidarity with those who do not have the privilege of making this choice, and thanks to them, I now know that courage, beauty, and strength have nothing to do with hair length.

Marie-Mai was the first to step up when Pascale Bouchard, Executive Director of Leucan, challenged influential, daring, assertive, and courageous women leaders to shave their heads along with her as part of the Les Audacieuses project.

Although COVID-19 delayed the launch of the project, Marie-Mai was able to act as sponsor to the ten bold women who shaved in solidarity with cancer-stricken children in March 2021.

Marie-Mai’s commitment, in her own words

While on tour, I came across several cancer-stricken children and their families, and I have seen Leucan at work in the field. The birth of my daughter gave me the urgency to do something. I wanted to make a difference, not only through my music and lyrics, but also through concrete action.
