The diagnosis
He had a lot of pain in his legs because he played soccer, and all of a sudden, he had to stop. We went to the clinic. They did an X-ray. It was a bit long before we had the results. Then we went to the Children Hospital. When we got there, they ran a whole battery of tests, and that’s when we got the diagnosis of leukemia.

Comfort, inform and guide
Leucan came to the hospital. It wasn’t a very happy moment, obviously. We were very sad, disoriented too. A woman came in and introduced herself. She told us what Leucan does for families. She gave Zachary a big red Leucan bag. There was a game inside, a big comfortable plush blanket and shirts adapted for treatments. Just like that, we felt we were not left alone. It appeased us during this difficult time. Since that day, they have always been there. We met with our agent, Sylvie Cantin that we adore because she appeased a lot of things. We saw she had experience with services to families and we felt comfortable with her. Leucan is part of the family now.
Financial Assistance
Leucan Laurentides-Lanaudières, they do a lot of things for us financially. It was difficult, because I didn’t work, I still don’t work. So Leucan stays near if we need them.
You have to think that with hospital appointments, we could go park the car further, but obviously Zachary is tired and weak, so after his treatments, it’s not even a question. The car needs to be near. So for parking, Leucan helped us.
Alleviate physical and psychological pain
The entire family can benefit from the massages and it feels good. We love to get massages. They are little moments just for us. We escape in another world. We all thinks about ourselves and it relaxes us and makes us feel so good. It’s a service they really need to keep giving.
Fight cancer and improve treatments
Maybe one day, we’ll overcome this and lower the leukemia or cancer diagnosis, there’s still so much cancer amongst children. But I believe in it! I 100%believe in it, because there are results. There is still a lot to be done. It’s important to contribute to research and give money towards it, so that one day, children can have a wonderful life and less diagnosis.
Break families out of their isolation and contribute to their well-being
I was very closed at first. But then it changed, all of a sudden, I talked to one mom and I understood I was not alone. I was isolating myself. I feel good with other parents who have sick children. It’s a little special, but I feel understood. There is no judgment. We can talk among ourselves. I would like to hold all these parents in my arms and tell them we are in the same boat. It’s going to be okay. Even when it’s not always okay, it’s going to be okay.

It’s important to give to Leucan because of everything they do for the families, to comfort them, it’s priceless. I encourage people to give. I, myself, did the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge. My husband did it the year before and we talked about Leucan so much. Be assured your money is very well distributed and that they really do a lot for the families.
