As part of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, Leucan wishes to highlight the resilience and determination of parents of cancer-stricken children.

The Leucan HUMA Challenge—a fundraising adventure trip for people who want to surpass themselves while raising money for cancer-stricken children and their families—illustrates the courage of parents facing their children’s disease. Julie, mom and member of Leucan, will take part in the Challenge this upcoming May. “I’m doing this for my son, Ulysse, and for all those extraordinary young souls fighting to regain their health.” Amélie, another mom and member of Leucan, adds: “Every donation takes me closer to my goal: reaching the top of Machu Picchu in honour of my little Jordan who is leading a battle worthy of a superhero!”

Like the families who must summon up all their strength to go through the ordeal of cancer, participants in Leucan HUMA Challenge must also arm themselves with perseverance and determination to reach the summit of Machu Picchu.

In Quebec, nearly one family is struck with a childhood cancer diagnosis every day. Thanks to the money raised via various fundraisers, such as the Leucan HUMA Challenge, those families do not have to face difficult times alone. Carol Beaudry, Family Services, Research and Partnerships Manager for Leucan, explains that “Leucan provides emotional support but is also there concretely for families whose daily lives have been turned upside down by cancer.”
