Hosting and Support Services in Playrooms

Thanks to Leucan’s hosting and support services available in most of the pediatric oncology centres’ outpatient clinics, children with cancer that go to hospital to receive treatment can also count on Leucan to have fun and play with other children. These services help create a safe and friendly environment for children and their parents who can spend hundreds of hours per year in these centres.

At Sainte-Justice UHC, Leucan offers young visitors a playroom, a waiting room for parents, as well as a lounge equipped with computers reserved exclusively for teens. Leucan has also set up a playroom at the Centre mère-enfant du CHUQ, as well as at CHUS, and funded the equipment at Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre.

By setting up playrooms and providing qualified educators, Leucan offers families support during the sick child’s entire illness. In outpatient clinics, Leucan provides hosting and support services to children, teens, and their siblings. These services are diversified: games, discussions, creative activities (wood painting, jewel design, stained glass, arts and crafts of all kinds). As well, some activities take place on special occasions during the year: community dinners at outpatient clinics, Halloween, Christmas, etc. Educators also help parents by offering emotional support, a receptive ear, references, and information as needed.

Note that the playroom environment created by Leucan professionals also favours mutual support, sharing and exchanges between different families that go to outpatient clinics.
